Portrait of Matilda Ipeh Anashie

Hi, I'm Matilda Ipeh Anashie

I'm a Nigerian Product Design Lead with 6+ years of experience designing AI, fintech, creator economy, SaaS, and Web3 products across Africa, Asia, and Europe.

My background in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering shapes how I work: understanding complex systems, finding the human problem within them, and building clear, trustworthy products. I currently lead product design for MUST Company’s Blockchain and User Experience Innovation Design team, guiding a four-designer team across two Web3 products, their websites, and a shared token ecosystem. I also introduced design-system and AI-assisted workflows that improved design-to-development handoff by 40%.

Beyond product work, I co-founded Canann Impact Foundation, contribute to open-source technology through Outreachy and ODK-X, and support the design community through mentorship, writing, and speaking.

Dear Zoey,

something happened today and I realised —

"Everything we need to be happy in life is right in front of us and yet we look for it in all the wrong places."

WEEKEND WATCH

I love watching movies, but my latest obsession is K-drama. The stories and the acting keep me absolutely glued to my screen. A perfect weekend unwinding mood.

Bits of my life

Confidential Client Project · E-Commerce · Gulf Region · 2024

Designing a two-sided commerce platform for Gulf SMEs and their customers.

Role
Sole Product Designer
Duration
5 months
Platform

Scope
Merchant Platform · Buyer App · Website
TAJRR Platform
tl;dr — if you won’t read the whole thing

Designed a connected commerce platform that helps Gulf SMEs create and manage stores while giving buyers one place to discover and purchase from local brands.

My role(s)
Sole Product Designer across research, product strategy, UX, UI, and handoff
Designed the merchant web platform, buyer mobile app, platform website, and shared design system
Tested the experience with 10 participants and collected structured feedback from 15 more
Designed and developed the AI-assisted product-listing and buyer-discovery experiences
Outcome
01
25people contributed through usability sessions and structured forms
02
3connected customer-facing surfaces designed as one commerce ecosystem
03
Client-approved prototype and complete development handoff; launch status remains unconfirmed
The Platform

Two sides. One platform. Gulf commerce.

For merchants — TAJRR brings store setup, AI-assisted product cataloguing, customisable templates, order management, inventory, and business analytics into one workspace.

For buyers — An AI chatbot surfaces the right products from the right local brands. Personalised recommendations, frictionless checkout, and real-time order tracking built for the Gulf consumer.

The Problem

Two markets, broken in two different ways.

MERCHANT SIDE
01Manual product cataloguing made store setup slow and repetitive
02No storefront control — fragmented social platforms only
03Zero analytics on what drives sales or when to restock
BUYER SIDE
01Discovery friction — can’t find niche Gulf brands without exact search terms
02Trust gap — inconsistent quality signals across SME stores
03Order anxiety — no centralised tracking for delivery and returns

01 — Onboarding

From sign-up to store setup in three steps.

I structured merchant sign-up across three focused screens using progressive disclosure. The new-user dashboard then guides merchants toward a clear first action instead of leaving them with an empty workspace.

02 — Store Builder

A storefront that feels like theirs, not a template.

Merchants can select from multiple starting points and customise colour, layout, typography, and product presentation without code. A live preview keeps design decisions and storefront output in the same workflow.

03 — AI Product Management

From product photo to reviewed listing with AI assistance.

AI upload flow: merchants photograph or describe a product and the system auto-fills title, category, description, and tags. A review-and-confirm step keeps the merchant in control without slowing them down.

PHOTO-TO-LISTING

Snap a product image. AI extracts name, category, and attributes automatically.

SMART CATEGORISATION

Auto-mapped to the correct TAJRR marketplace category for maximum discoverability.

BULK UPLOAD REVIEW

Review AI-generated fields in a batch grid before publishing. Edit in-line, approve in bulk.

INVENTORY SYNC

Every listing auto-links to inventory. Stock updates in real-time as orders arrive.

04 — Discovery

Find the right store before you know what you’re looking for.

An AI chatbot uses buyer preferences and conversational prompts to surface relevant products and local brands without requiring an exact search term.

05 — Shopping & Checkout

A clear path from cart to confirmation.

The checkout flow removes forced account creation and keeps delivery, payment, and order details visible before purchase. The summary screen gives buyers one clear moment to review everything before confirming.

06 — Order Tracking

Knowing where your order is shouldn’t be hard.

Order tracking designed around one emotion: confidence. Live progress indicators, merchant communication, and a single-tap return flow replace the anxiety of order ambiguity.

Reflection

Designing a two-sided marketplace meant treating merchant operations and buyer confidence as one connected system. The most important decisions were not isolated screen improvements, but shared patterns across onboarding, catalogue management, discovery, checkout, and fulfilment. Working solo required me to hold that system together from research through development handoff.
